This Month Eita asks Matthew about food eaten by British people on New Year’s Day
As you know Matthew, on New Year’s Day, Japanese people eat special New Year’s food called ‘osechi’. Do British people eat anything special on New Year’s Day?
I don’t know whether most British people do it or not, but my mother always cooks a roast dinner on New Year’s Day.
What is a roast dinner?
A roast dinner is a traditional British and Irish meal served on Sundays. It is also called, Sunday Dinner, Sunday Lunch, Sunday Tea, Sunday Roast and Sunday Joint. Here is a picture of one.
It looks very tasty! Do you always use roast beef?
No we don’t. You can also have pork, chicken, lamb or turkey. Sometimes it is made with a combination of different meats.
