I had such a great summer in the UK. I will always remember it! Besides making a lot of friends, getting the chance to improve my English and staying with a fantastic host family, I also got the opportunity to experience British culture first hand. I will never forget the day I bought my first ice cream from an ice cream van.
I was watching TV with my host family when all of a sudden I heard a strange sound. It sounded like a children’s song. I asked my host family what it was and they told me it was the ice cream van.
They were very shocked when I told them I had never seen an ice cream van in my neighbourhood before.
My host family and I quickly ran out of the house and into the street to stop the ice cream van before it left. We were just in time! The man driving the van came to the side window and asked us what we wanted.
Next to the window there were many pictures of different ice creams and lollipops. I asked my host family what I should get and they recommended a ’99’ with a chocolate flake.
It was delicious! After we received our ice creams, the ice cream van drove away and we could hear the song again.
My host family told me that they often drive around the neighbourhood during the summer.
