Last month Eiichi and I went to see The King’s Speech at the cinema. I had read many reviews in newspapers, and all of them said it was a great film.
The film was about King George VI, the King of England, and his battle to overcome a stutter.
A ‘stutter’ is a problem some people have when they speak. This problem meant that King George couldn’t speak smoothly. The King needed to do many important speeches on live radio, and in big sports stadiums, so he went to train with a speech therapist.
The film is a true story and an adaptation of a play. Although it’s a drama about a serious issue, there are many moments that are funny. Geoffrey Rush, who played the role of the speech therapist, was a quirky character and most of the funny scenes involved him.
The lead actor, who played the role of the King, was Colin Firth. I’ve seen him before in films like The English Patient, Bridget Jones, and Love Actually. His performance in this film was great, so I was really happy when he won the Best Actor Oscar. I can’t wait to see his next film!
I really enjoyed this film. It’s definitely the best film I’ve seen so far this year.
