Last month I came back to Japan after a short holiday in England with my wife, Eri. England was freezing and it snowed a lot while we were there, but we still managed to go out on some day trips with a few of our friends.
One day we visited one of the oldest places in England. It was founded by the Romans in 71AD but in 886AD the Vikings captured the city and called it Jorvik, or ‘York’ as it is known now.
York is a beautiful city, with many sights to see. We’ve been there 3 times now, but we still haven’t seen everything. There’s a castle, many museums, and a spectacular Cathedral. One of the most picturesque places is a shopping area called ‘The Shambles’. ‘The Shambles’ is a narrow, cobbled, medieval street lined with quaint shops and tea rooms.
Around lunchtime we found an old traditional pub with a nice food menu and had something to eat. Fortunately I wasn’t driving so I had a pint of one of the local beers, which was delicious, and had a great name!
After that, Eri went back to The Shambles to buy some souvenirs for our friends back in Japan, while I went to take some more photographs of the Cathedral.
