This month Eiko asks Chris about crafts in the UK.
Is there a place in the UK that is famous for a craft?
The city of Stoke-on-Trent is known as ‘The Potteries’ because it has more than 25 pottery factories. Some of the world’s most famous pottery and ceramic brands are from here. Maybe you know Wedgwood, Royal Albert and Royal Doulton?
Yes of course. Wow. They’re all from the same city! Are there many places to visit in The Potteries?
Yes so many. Visitors can enjoy factory tours, factory shops, pottery museums and craft demonstrations. It’s really interesting watching a potter working.
I know 2 famous potters… Harry Potter and Beatrix Potter!!
Haha, very funny! Actually Beatrix Potter has a connection with The Potteries. Wedgwood has produced a range of ‘Peter Rabbit’ ceramics since 1949. Many people collect them.
Oh really? I didn’t know that.
Another interesting thing about Wedgwood is that the founder (Josiah Wedgwood) had a very famous grandson – Charles Darwin!
