The London Eye is a huge Ferris wheel.
In fact, it’s the largest Ferris wheel in Europe, and it’s also the most popular tourist attraction in the UK.
The London Eye opened on 31 December 1999 as part of the new millennium celebrations in the UK. Because of this, the London Eye’s original name was ‘The Millennium Wheel’.
The wheel’s diameter is 120 meters, and at the highest point the London Eye is 135 metres tall. The wheel has 32 passenger capsules, and each capsule can carry 25 people. Inside the capsules, the passengers can walk around and take photographs as the wheel goes round.
It takes about 30 minutes for the wheel to complete one revolution, so there’s plenty of time to get some great pictures of London.
The London Eye is located on the banks of the River Thames, almost directly opposite the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
The nearest London Underground station is Waterloo, but Westminster station and Embankment station are very close too.
If you buy your London Eye tickets on the day, it currently costs £19.20 for adults, £12.30 for children, and £15.30 for seniors over 60.
You can get a special family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children for £63.
If you buy your tickets before the day you want to go on the London Eye, you can usually get a cheaper price.
If you pre book your tickets online, you can save up to 20%.
