Today’s interview topic is ‘free time’.
OK. I’ll try to answer as best I can!

What do you usually do on your weekend?
In the morning I wake up later than usual and have brunch. In the afternoon, I usually go to the gym for an hour or two. In the evening, I usually eat out with some friends.

What do you usually do in the evening after finishing work?
After work, I cook dinner. After that, I usually relax by reading a book or watching a movie.

Do you ever go on short trips at the weekend?
Yes, sometimes. Last month I went to Tokyo for the weekend. I would like to go to Nagano at some point; many people have told me that it is worth visiting.

Why would you like to go to Nagano?
I would like to see the famous Zenko Buddhist temple that overlooks the city. I am also a keen snowboarder, and I’ve heard that Nagano is a great place for snowboarding.

How do other British people spend their free time?
People enjoy different kinds of indoor and outdoor activities in Britain. Hiking is quite popular throughout the country. Whenever I go back to the UK to visit my friends and my family, I always spend a day or two hiking in the Peak District National Park near my hometown. However, I’d say most people spend their free time watching TV or socializing.

How do retired people in the UK spend their free time?
Of the retired people I know, most of them spend their free time gardening, reading or shopping. My grandfather was a very keen gardener.

Do British people have more free time than Japanese people?
That is a difficult question. I read in a British newspaper that British people work the longest hours in Europe and spend less time sleeping and eating than almost any other Western country. The UK has eight national holidays.
