Have you heard of Twitter? Do you use it?

Twitter is a social networking service. It allows users to send and read short text posts of just 140 characters. These posts are called ‘tweets’.

If you ‘follow’ somebody on Twitter, it means you can see all the tweets that person makes.

Do you have a favourite actor or singer? Maybe you have a favourite sports star or politician? It’s possible that these people use Twitter and post tweets!

Some famous people who use Twitter include:

  • President Obama @BarackObama
  • Tom Hanks @tomhanks
  • Lady Gaga @ladygaga
  • Michael Phelps @MichaelPhelps
  • Kosuke Kitajima @kitajimakosuke
  • Ken Watanabe @watanabe
  • Haruki Murakami @harukimurakami_

Of course normal people use Twitter too! Maybe some of your friends tweet.

Some members of The Tanaka family also use Twitter. You can find out what Eri, Eiichi and Eita are doing by following them too. Their usernames are:

  • @Eri_Tanaka
  • @Eiichi_Tanaka
  • @Eita_Tanaka

If you have a PC, you can make a Twitter account easily. Just go to Twitter.com!

You can change the language to Japanese so it’s easy to sign up and understand how to use it.

If you have a smartphone, you can use Twitter on your phone. Download the app, and make an account, or sign in using your existing account.
